Heiðin is located only around 6 minutes from central Akureyri by car.

In the vicinity there are a number of activities and attractions, notably the Forest Lagoon geothermal baths that are located only a 4 minute drive away, or a 35 minute walk.

Forest Lagoon

4 minute drive or 35 minute walk

The Forest Lagoon, Skógarböðin, is a new geothermal spa located on the same side of the Eyjafjörður Valley as our homes at Heiðin. It was opened in 2022 and features spacious outdoor baths located inside the woods, with an west facing view of the lower valley. It also features a pool bar, cold pool, sauna and restaurant.

Akureyri city

6 minute drive or 1h walk

Akureyri’s picturesque city centre is Iceland’s “capital of the north”, and is the 2nd largest urban area outside Reykjavík. Take a walk through its quaint centre and visit its shops, cafés restaurants. Things to see are the Akureyri Church, the Hof Cultural Centre, the Botanical Gardens and the local swimming pool.

Hlíðarfjall Ski Resort

16 minute drive

The Hlíðarfjall ski resort is located on the opposite side of the Eyjafjörður valley, above the town of Akureyri. It is considered Iceland’s best ski resort! There are 24 runs of varying difficulty, served by 8 ski lifts, including two chairlifts reaching over 1,000m in elevation. The base includes a ski rental, café and ample free parking. There is also a mid-mountain café. Both skiers and snowboarders welcome! Also open during the summer offering mountain biking trails.
